Due to the extreme cold this weekend, the Glenlee site on Worthington Avenue will NOT be open for skating Saturday and Sunday.  For those that still want to brave the cold, the Norberry site rinks and building will be open until 7 pm Saturday and 10 pm Sunday.

We are currently looking for a person willing to take on the role of Mini Soccer Convenor for the spring session of soccer this year!  Duties include gathering registrations, securing coaches and making teams for our 4-6 year old program.  Most work is done on the computer and via email.  PLEASE if you can spare a few hours a week for a short time this spring, please contact the office at 204-256-6654.

This year's Valentine's dance will take place on Friday, February 15th from 7-9 pm in the main hall at the Norberry site on Molgat Ave.  Cost is $3 and we have prizes and fun for everyone!  Mark it on your calendar and bring your friends.  Parents - reminder to pick your children up in the hall PROMPTLY at 9 pm!

The Glenlee site (Worthington Ave) is open from 4:30 to 9:45 pm Monday to Friday and 9 am to 4:45 pm on weekends. Lights are not on in the evenings past closing.  PLEASE NOTE that this site will not stay open if the windchill is colder then -30C.
The Norberry site (Molgat Ave) is open from 9 am to 10 pm Monday to Friday.  Saturday and Sunday the building is open from 9 am to 6 pm, and sometimes later depending on functions in the hall/gym.  Lights stay on until 10:30 pm every night.

If you have a Keurig coffee machine, we have a new program that can benefit you and NGCC at the same time!  Cabby's Coffee has developed a program that will donate $1 per box of K-Cups purchased back to the community centre.  And they will deliver the coffee to your home (within the St.Vital/St. Boniface area) to boot!  Check out their website here for more details and to see what types of coffee and tea you can order.  Keep in mind that all the K-Cups are recyclable, and Cabby will pick up pods to recycle for you when he drops off your order, so this program is good for the environment as well.

PLEASE NOTE that St. Vital Minor Hockey Association made a last minute decision to reduce the volunteer fee that we charge, so only $30 is available for refund after you do your 3 hour volunteer shift.  We ask everyone to PLEASE continue to sign up for shifts even if you don't think it is worthwhile to just get back $30, as our events/services rely on our volunteers.  Canteens being open, dances, and Breakfast with Santa will all be in jeopardy if we don't get enough volunteers.

To sign up for your shift(s), please go to SignUp.com.

If you need more information, call the office at 204-256-6654.

NGCC will be collecting used sports equipment on behalf of 4 First Nations Communities.  A Social Worker from our community makes regular trips up north and the people he meets with are very appreciative of any equipment they can aquire to keep the people of their communities active and engaged. At this time they are particularily interested in baseball/softball and soccer equipment, but are willing to take anything.

The 4 communities are: Bunibonibee Cree Nation (Oxford House), Manto Sipi Cree Nation, Gods Lake First Nation and Chemawawin Cree Nation.

We will have a collection bin set up just inside the main doors at the Norberry site on Molgat Ave.

Every year, our Volunteer coaches run into parents that are not satisfied with how their child is being coached. Here is a document that all parents (and coaches too) should read to remind themselves to keep things in perspective.  Happy reading

A new article titled "Are Great Coaches Becoming an Endangered Species?" is also very good and worth a read...find it here.

And yet another good article titled "your kid and my kid are not making the pros".

Everything came together so well on the 26th... Everything came together so well on the 26th and the weather finally cooperated with us. We fed around 200 people and there was easily another 100 people in attendance just to partake in all the activities. From the looks on everyone's faces to the positive messages sent to our committee and volunteers, we are thankful! At NGCC our aim is to build up our community and that night we did. Special thank you's go out to the planning committee - Ian, Donna T, Donna J, Patti, Sean and Geraldine. Also other Board members, especially Blair and Ryan as well as our staff and volunteers. Pictures were taken by Cindy Phelan and they are posted on our Facebook page, so go check them out!

Walter Jennings, one of the founding members ... Walter Jennings, one of the founding members of Glenlee CC passed away this week. He served on the Board of Directors for 45 years and was an integral part of the "Skate House" being built between the 2 rinks at the Glenlee site on Worthington Ave. Upon his retirement, that building was renamed the Walter Jennings Sports Facility and that made him very proud. Our community will miss you Walter!
